[rhn-users] CPU usage problem on the Enterprise AS4.0

I tried to run 2 big processes "atachd and Astro", got following result
from "top" on AS4.0.
It is very interesting, the total CPU usage (cpu0 + cpu1 + cpu2 + cpu3)
wont over then 100%
That's why I always got %CPU usage is less then 25% (100% / 4 cpus =
25%) from sar.

I also try run same processes on the RedHat Enterprise 3.0 on same model
machine,
the CPU usage is make sense, 2 CPUs usage can reach 100% full.

I read a journal about the CPU Affinity from
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/6799
But I am not sure it is related or not.

I have seen many different types of top outputs. In your case, it seems
that top is reporting the total %CPU usage. So...

If a process is using 25% in a 4 processor machine, that means that the
process is using 100% of one processor. A single process cannot use
more than one processor at a time. This is also why the process on your
Sun v20z with 2 processors tops out at 50% CPU usage, meaning it is
using 100% of one processor.
