[rhn-users] Update software through up2date - Problems

I think I found a workaround for this problem. I was updating an
Opteron box and I received an error like:

"unresolvable chain of dependencies:
rpm-libs 4.2.3-21 requires libelf.so.1

(or something like that - it has rolled off of the screen already).

I had a problem similar to this once before so this time I kept track of
the commands that I entered.

First I removed the /var/lib/rpm/__db* files (I don't know that this
step helped because I got the same unresolvable dependency error when I
tried to run update):

# rm /var/lib/rpm/__db

Next I downloaded the rpm packages and moved them to a local directory:

# up2date -d rpm-libs
# mv /var/spool/up2date/*.rpm /root/Downloads

Then I installed the rpm packages and updated my RHN profile:

# rpm -Uvh rpm*.rpm
# up2date -p

The I updated the rest of the packages:

# up2date -u --nox
