I too have had a 'bit of fun' with getting the Dell 670 and dual
monitors running but the problem there is/was the nvidia drivers..
I got the very latest drivers from the nvidia site and even then I had
to 'fiddle' with the XF86Config file .. But they do work and they work
nicely
I also have at home a Dell 2005 and using an i810 video driver with
Fedora 4.. That work super.
Biggest thing that I needed to "read the book" was for the horizontal
and vertical sync information..

No problem. I've had problem with the New Dell Flat Panel monitors a
few times. I had to configure a Dell 670 with dual monitors earlier
this year, that was quite challenging.
Once you get the O/S installed go ahead and make a backup of this file
/etc/X11/XF86Config.
