[rhn-users] Mysql permission denied

I've upgraded from mysql-server-4.1.19-1.FC4.1 to 
mysql-server-4.1.20-1.FC4.1.  After doing so mysqld will not start and the 
following error appears in the mysqld log file.

/usr/libexec/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot 
open shared object file: Permission denied

Permissions on this file that is located in /usr/lib/ appear as follows, the 
same as they were with the previous version of mysql:

lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 15 Jun 22 06:39 libz.so.1 -> libz.so.1.2.2.2
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 75568 Jul 22  2005 libz.so.1.2.2.2

After much googling and experimentation, I can't fix this problem.   Has 
anyone seen this before?
