Sendmail is placing From:example.com in place of my hostname when I send myself a test email.

I have searched every relevant config file I can find,
can anyone suggest where I should look to change "example" to "myhostname".com?

please help and I promise I'll go away.

Did you check "/etc/mail/submit.cf"? It might be
coming from the "Dj" entry in the file.

Did you also try

grep example /etc/mail/*

It's a long shot but you could also check /etc/hosts.
