I currently have NFS running with a single share. The entry in /etc/exports is thus: /mnt/inst *(ro,sync) I usually have to manually start NFS for some reason but that isn't what's important right now. However, this doesn't work and instead gives me the following error: mount: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection reset by peer After I attempt to mount /mnt/inst and it fails I run `service nfs restart`. For the most part this works normally. However, shutting down mountd fails. After the restart though, I can start and stop NFS and mountd won't have any problems. First, this doesn't really belong on the RHN list. This list is for issues dealing with the Red Hat up2date service (RHN aka Red Hat Network). Secondly, you can run ntpdate out of a cron job to make hourly (or daily) connections to an NTP server. No, it's different because it's UDP - no connections. Think of it like "ping", but passing time information in the packets. If you don't want to run ntpd, which will do a good job of keeping time with good clock behaviour (i.e. monotonic clock - no backwards time shifts, etc), you could run the "ntpdate" command occasionally. Plus he's trying to _not_ use port 80 ... did you even read? Mike: the problem is almost assuredly caused by SElinux. I can't tell you how to "fix" it, but you can test this theory and get things working by disabling SElinux - as root, run '/usr/sbin/setenforce 0'. Then try starting apache with your alternate-port apache conf. If that works, you can disable SElinux "permanently" by editing /etc/selinux/config and setting the SELINUX variable to "permissive" or "disabled", so that it won't be enforced after a reboot. Also, there should be messages in /var/log/messages that indicate SElinux's beef. I should emphasize that this is just a cheap workaround; it's definitely possible to update the SElinux restrictions so that it'll allow you to run apache on a different port without disabling SElinux .... but I don't know how. ;-) Also, this is off-topic for this list. Redhat uses MD5. You will need to go into Yast - Security and Users - Edit and Create Users, then click on the advanced options button. There you can change the default cipher used to MD5. Then change everybody's passwords. The new hashes will be created using MD5. Then you can copy into /etc/shadow on your RedHat box and they will work. i.e. As long as they are both using MD5. That's the trouble shooting part. How Suse can use shadow passwords produced with the MD5 algorithm on RedHat even while using blowfish? That a question for the Suse forums. When logging in the first time each day, after I enter my username and password I am quickly returned to the RHN login screen with no error message displayed. When I login a second time it works as expected. Subsequent relogins work fine. I can log out and back in fine, until the next day when I again need to login twice to get started. I've seen this problem from multiple machines, from multiple networks, and using both SeaMonkey and Firefox. Asking other users around my organization I find some who have seen this problem at times and others who have not. I see it pretty much every day. Anyone else out in rhn-user land seeing it? These requests will be forwarded to the Product Manager for review. Item number 2 can be done using the RHN API, but this would still require a script to login and list the channels that could be associated with a given system and is not part of the current up2date client. If such a script was created and used in your environment, it would then maybe make sense to add another feature request that an API to allow the 'auto errata' flag to be set via the RHN API. While I have no objection to being able to do this and much more through the API, I really want these two features in up2date so normal users can perform them using the one program they typically learn to keep their system up to speed. Even without the dump of all channels, being able to tell a user to run "up2date --subscribe-channel foo" or something like that would be very helpful. The context of my request is that I have hundreds of users who wouldn't need RHN accounts at all if they could perform these two tasks without it. And those hundreds of user accounts are causing a support nightmare. We have a kickstart process in place that works really well ( I can duplicate a kickstart file for the app I need, change the name and IP info, kickstart the server and have it all done in about 5 minutes) and we'd like to retain since kickstarting with sat server generated ks files doesn't allow me to easily change the hostname info and it only has provisions for one NIC (we can have as many as 4 configured on a system) so I'd have to configure the rest manually or write some convoluted interactive script. That said, I hate having to maintain a repository for each version of the OS we run to kickstart from when all the packages are already on the Satellite server just not in a layout I can use to install from without using the sat server kickstart files. I have found that if I use the following example line from the sat server ks file (for version of the OS I'm loading) in my ks file it works fine - ONCE and only once. url --url http://satserver.yada.yada.com/ty/iO0wG4C5 I guess it's some sort of ticket in the sat server DB for the package list and gets removed once called - I don't really know. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this link permanent in the sat server so I can install against that package list whenever I want? I see that the LPDSRV starts on the windows server. At the client, i configure LPD and enter server ip. Next, it asks for "queue". What goes here? (like, each printer has a queue name?) The other possibility is to use cups or smb. (?) tx.
