We have registered our machines on RHN, and there are some software that we want to update, but we fell afraid that those updating programs crash our applications (mysql, postgres and apache). The questions are: - What is the possibility that this will happen? - If we get a crash, how we can resolve that? - Is there a way to go back?, I mean desinstall the updates? - Do you have a procedure or document that tell me about ?how to update RH?? - Where can I get more information about ?how linux does the updating process?? Mostly, Red Hat takes care to not allow changes that will "break" existing servers. If you mean to install a version that is not from Red Hat, you will not be able to call on Red Hat support for help, even if you have a support contract. Red Hat version 4 uses up2date to do all official updating: http://linux.die.net/man/8/up2date Red Hat version 5 uses yum: http://linux.die.net/man/8/yum You will have to use your best judgement in this case. There is a lot of help available at http://www.linuxquestions.com and http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ for when you need it.
