It is recommended to backup everything before you make any changes, so
that you can restore it if there are problems.

Mostly, Red Hat takes care to not allow changes that will "break"
existing servers. If you mean to install a version that is not from Red
Hat, you will not be able to call on Red Hat support for help, even if
you have a support contract.

Red Hat version 4 uses up2date to do all official updating:
http://linux.die.net/man/8/up2date

Red Hat version 5 uses yum: http://linux.die.net/man/8/yum

You will have to use your best judgement in this case. There is a lot of
help available at http://www.linuxquestions.com and
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ for when you need it.

Best regards,

- Paul

"romperán" a servidores existentes.

oficial: http://linux.die.net/man/8/up2date

Recuerdos,

- Paul
