Message-ID: Hi, I have a question about yum repositories. I know how to register a server with RHN I know how to set up a Yum repository I know how to change my yum config so it points to the new yum repository instead of RHN. BUT My yum repository was created by copying all the RPMs off my install media so it is a point in time effectively. How do I keep that yum repository up to date? How can I ensure those RPMs are always the latest ones? Would yumdownloader or yum-downloadonly be what I need - if so how can I set that up (in cron) to refresh my repo? Second time, another RedHat engineer worked with me and we not got success download too. Our network side has captured the data when we try to download update and not see any block from net work side. I will try to call RedHat engineer again today. There is something a little amusing about asking on the RHN support list how to arrange things so you don't use RHN. There are a number of options and which might be best in your particular case would depend on your situation. > BUT > > My yum repository was created by copying all the RPMs off my install media > so it is a point in time effectively. > How do I keep that yum repository up to date? ?How can I ensure those RPMs > are always the latest ones? > > Would yumdownloader or yum-downloadonly be what I need - if so how can I > set that up (in cron) to refresh my repo? Some of you options include: * RHN Satellite Server * RHN Proxy Server * Spacewalk * mrepo * reposync or other yum tools to download the files locally John From xhuang at graphnet.com Fri Apr 30 19:12:12 2010 From: xhuang at graphnet.com (Xiaoxu Huang) Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2010 15:12:12 -0400 Subject: [rhn-users] yum upgrade In-Reply-To: <4BDA2A90.3080102@redhat.com> References: <5D0C692E779B483FB4F0BAB27875AEFE@graphnetnzkrv0> <0CBA1E8CB7C248C5A1156316B4E30E08@graphnetnzkrv0> <4BDA2A90.3080102@redhat.com> Message-ID: <7F8700BDB6654DA09EA16097A2451C4D@graphnetnzkrv0> Clifford and Nate, The problem has resolved. On our case, when we do yum upgrade now, the machine not only calls xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com (209.132.183.44), but also needs communication with machine 96.6.74.196. After our firewall opened for both machines 209.132.183.44 and 96.6.74.196, the yum upgrade worked. Since we bought the support (rhn upgrade) from Dell, I have no case number at Redhat side. I can't update their side info.
