Sounds like you're VM's SCSI controller is configured for BusLogic - you
really should switch this to LSI. You're best bet is to preload the LSI
modules in the initrd for your new kernel and have the VM guys switch
the SCSI controller type - that should clear things up.

I can boot the kernel with older kernel after reinstalling GRUB. But
that is too old kernel and at some point I need to update the kernel. 

At some point I will need to update kernel again and face the same
problem.

Can you try booting to an older kernel.  This will help to eliminate 
other hardware/software issues.
