movinf /usr to a new partition



Hi,

I've got a free linux partition and I want to move /usr from my main linux 
partition to it.

is it enough to temporarely mount the new partition (say /mnt/temp).
do a cd /usr; cp -pR * /mnt/temp
unmont and then mount the new partition on /usr ?
will I mess symb links?
