hi Frank,

there is also a plugin for yum called versionlock. It locks packages to a
specific version so they won't get updated. I don't know if it can be used
with the rhn-plugin for yum together, you could try it though.

Your question about the comparison of systems, I don't know if it's in
Spacewalk (have to install a server today), but in Satellite you can compare
the packages installed on one machine to another machine or to a profile.
With a profile you can "synchronise" the systems to exactly the same state.
