Joshua Roys was working on this few weeks back. He sent out a patch to 
us on spacewalk-devel subject - "[Spacewalk-devel] [PATCH/RFC/WIP] 
manage symlinks in config    management". So there has been some 
communication wrt changes needed to his patch. So my guess is Josh is 
still interested in updating and providing us the updated patch when he 
has time. He had majority of the functionality in place jus some 
knit-picky changes left. cc'ing him, so I'll let him fill you on the status.
