[Spacewalk-list] How to backup spacewalk?

I'm attempting to set up ACHIVELOG in oracle xe and running into a wall.

#. /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh
#sqlplus /nolog
SQL> connect / as sysdba
ERROR:
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

I can log in with the 'sqlplus 'sys at xe as sysdba' just fine but after
shutting down the database this method no longer works for modifying
oracle.

I'm sure there is a simple step I am missing, does anyone have an idea?
