Hi

I have now spent some time to enable the above but no luck. I have tried
so many websites and they all say the same with no success:

The instructions i have are:

login into db with sqlplus:
sqlplus 'sys/Bl3rtsi31@//localhost/XE as sysdba'
shutdown or shutdown immediate

This shuts down the server. Next the instructions says,

start a new instance:
I am sure you do that by:
sqlplus /nolog
then execute
startup mount

this is where things go wrong.
it always says:
SQL> startup mount
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified

How do i get oraclexe to start the db in mount so i can execute:

ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN;

to enable archivelog mode.

Thanks

Kobus
