Yes, postgresql is running ok - all other Spacewalk services are ok and I can log in fine. I don't run selinux, so I assume those bugs won't impact, but I have upgraded sudo anyway and chmod'd /etc/nsswitch  just in case.

I'll keep digging around, would be handy if there was a way to increase the logging a bit. Hopefully someone has come across this and solved!

Sorry.  Your symptoms look identical to my scenario.  I suspect there's something additional that needs to be poked with postgresql.

I presume that postgresql is indeed running at that you're not subject to the bug parade of sudo regressions that break the permissions and Selinux contexts of /etc/nsswitch.conf.  846631, 846974, at least one other.
