[Spacewalk-list] Basic errata question

So how does the errata in the yum repo work?  I'm seeing that in EPEL's repo under the repodata dir, there's an updateinfo.xml.gz file, and that looks promising.   I copied that file to my local mrepo stash of EPEL stuff and the ran spacewalk-repo-sync against that, but nothing happened regarding errata.

Any suggestions?

Well your not missing much
  Essentially there isn't one standard way to pull them out of every repo

Fedora, EPEL, Suse and a few others put them into the yum repo which is a fairly new method, this looks like it will be the standard in the future but its not written in stone yet. if they are in the yum repo spacewalk-repo-sync handles them.

RHEL puts them in their API and pages on their site.



Centos puts them on their Site but posts about them in their mailing list which makes the archive an easy place to get an index of them. most of the older scripts scrape the archive for indexes then pull them via Redhats API but new ones have been popping up such as ones that generate a yum repo that just contains erratas.

Scientific Linux doesn't really post them at all

Generally Centos and Scientific Linux  erratas are duplicates of the RHEL erratas but there are a few exceptions in the case of Centos. so if you have a RedHat account and a few licenses the Redhat API scripts should work for Scientific Linux all of the time and Centos for about 95%.

I've reviewed the popular errata collecting scripts out there and see the RHEL stuff is pulled from RHN via API calls to one of their websites and CentOS stuff is scraped from the CENTOS-ANNOUNCE list, but what about other repos?

Are there errata for Repoforge/RPM forge or EPEL?  What about the Spacewalk repos hosted by Red Hat?

I feel like I'm missing some basic piece of information about how to go about finding Errata information, so if such info exists, feel free to simply point me at it.
