Hardware_hal module is used on EL5 systems to get hardware information.
On EL6 systems there's hardware_gudev module. So there's some problem
with loading hardware_gudev on your system and then system falls back
to hardware_hal which is not installed.
Do you have /usr/share/rhn/up2date_client/hardware_gudev.py installed?
Is it unchanged (rpm -Vf /usr/share/rhn/up2date_client/hardware_gudev.py)?
Is there any error in /var/log/up2date?
