Sorry Irwin, In my case its the issue with one of mine local repos which
have yum priories enabled so we can use custom build rpm over spacewalk
channels. Its desired setup for us.

I would try to schedule task in web GUI and run on client : *rhn_check
-vvvvv*  , perhaps more clues are in verbose output.
