can you offer any references / documentation for how this configuration is achieved?

No, PXE is through LAN Link, we are using Layer 2 links so provisioning is running like if PXE server was on the same site, but it isn't :)

Thank you for the responses. Our MPLS links aren’t as large as some of yours …. hence the potential for latency. yes, we have a failover option although I’m not sure it’s as fast as our primary however short-term it might be.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but are you suggesting provisioning (including PXE ) OVER a WAN link? Not sure how that’ll work from a network config perspective since the core switches in the data center where the master lives might not know about the VLANs in other data centers in order to have ‘em on the IP helper list.

We’re preparing to build out a new data center. For short term that can be a proxy since for short term there will be a 10g link between that new data center and the one where the first master will live. Is there a procedure to ‘promote’ a proxy to a full blown master or do I have to build a new master and coordinate the shutdown of the old one when we’re ready to shut down the original data center (I’ll still have 2 others in use with proxies)?
