[Spacewalk-list] Action Chains?

Hi,

We, here, at first sought for action chain templates or something similar.

We have then moved to automating the update process with an extensive use of the API.

Just FYI, Satellite 6 is built around Katello, (http://www.katello.org/) and not Spacewalk.

Katello is using puppet as a core component. I hope that answers your question.

Daniel,

Yes, so long as you don't schedule or action them. Once you do that, they disappear.

That section seems to be a holding zone for action chains that are "being built" - once the chain is run, it disappears. Would be nice to have some permanence - especially if pushing a new conf file from Configuration and you want to restart a service - on >3 machines, would be nice to automate.

I guess at that point I should be using Ansible or fabric. Would just be nice to have everything in the same space.

Does anyone know if the move to Satellite 6 will be more Ansible/Chef/Puppet like?

cheers

L.

Can you see your saved action chains in Schedule > Action Chains ? I can’t confirm as I don’t use them (yet) but the description of this page states “Below is a list of all Action Chains available to the current user. Click on a label to view or edit it.” Seems legit.

I don't think so, unfortunately. If I'm wrong I'd love to hear otherwise... would be nice if they could be saved, shared among other users, etc. But seems like they are one time use and they fly away...

I just set up an action chain, and was quite chuffed with myself.

After I scheduled it, it executed, and now I can't find it any more?

Surely actions chains are saved for repeated use?
