The 2 things that may be throwing off the numbers.

1. Multiarch packages (where the same package is available for i386/x86_64)
2. kernel packages - only the most recent will actually be installed

Subject: [Spacewalk-list] Incorrect 'updatable packages' tally

Hi folks,

I submitted a bug report ( https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1380816 ) about a week ago showing a disparity between the number of packages available for update on the overview and the number of packages showing in the 'upgradable packages' screen when you select it.

Please see the image attached to the bug report to highlight what I'm referring to in more detail, but essentially it boils down to yum check-update and the update page within spacewalk indicating 4 more packages than are shown as updateable on the overview page.

Would anyone be aware of where this issue may be coming from and if there's any way to confirm if it's a simple overview display issue or indicative of deeper problems?

We have only just taken our spacewalk server into production and until I can verify the nature of this bug, we cannot proceed with full confidence.

Any thoughts welcomed. Please let me know if you need any log info or command output, etc.

Regards,

Jonathan
