[Spacewalk-list] [EXTERNAL] /var/satellite full (1.2TB). What happens if I remove some of the contents?

Tony,
It's been awhile since I ran Spacewalk. I replaced it with Satellite. I did a Google search and found this:

spacecmd system_list
spacecmd softwarechannel_list

Try 'spacecmd help' to see all of the available functions.

This looks like what I used in the past.

Hi Paul,
What command do you use to list channels? I haven't run the python script yet since it requires channel input. I do see some channels listed using "rhncfg-client list" but I was expecting more.
Thanks!
Tony

What I do is create clone channels and turn off automatic synching.
When I'm ready to update I perform a manual sync, then run the aforementioned script and cleanup to remove all the older packages.
Then I sync the clone with the parent channel and select to sync only new packages.
That seems to keep my space down to a reasonable level.

Hi,
Following up on this.

Spacewalk-data-fsck only cleared a few packages so the drive is still just about 100% full. I believe I have to start managing channels somehow...via spacecmd or GUI but I cannot get to them.

All of the services are listed as running when I run /usr/sbin/spacewalk-service status but when I try to use spacecmd it gives ERROR: Failed to connect to https://../rpc/api
The hostname is listed in /etc/hosts for localhost and I can ping the address. Other than that I'm not sure where to look to get the api connected. Would you guys have any ideas?
Thanks again!
Tony

Thanks for the help everyone! I was able to get the database up by just removing some directories from /var/satellite/redhat/ and systemctl start postgresql. The system is currently doing the spacewalk-data-fsck processes.. which will take a while. What else are you guys doing for system maintenance? I figure I should run the data-fsck command every week.

if it is taking way much space, you can clean and sync repo again.

/var/satellite/redhat/* ->>>this is where you will start deleting
I hope it will help!

Hi,

I can tell you this script is going to use the SW API. Once your system/db is down, API will be down as well. Try to cleanup some files first (ISO) or any other log that will allow you to start your SW once again, after that, go for it.

I hope this helps.

/var/satellite will continue to grow as the repos grow in size, due to packages being updated.
I have a separate disk just for satellite that we've bolted on more storage yearly.
