So appliance-tools for RHEL has stalled b/c ovirt is now using plain
livecd-tools.  It is also dependant on updating the version of
livecd-tools in EPEL which is on my radar, however back porting
appliance-tools to python 2.4 for RHEL is not.

However, I do believe there is a workaround to the issue that you are
currently seeing:

Please let me know if this fixes the issue.
