There was nothing in that lspci command in reference to ethernet
controllers... I am using an isa card - is that supported?

I had some old NE-12A card in there - it had lots of jumpers and archaic
things like that so I replaced it with a 3Com Etherlink III, 3C509B-C.

How do I proceed?

I did edit the ifconfig-lo and changed it back.
