You must have a problem with your fstab entry for /dev/cdrom. It
should be somethign like this:
/dev/cdrom      /mnt/cdrom     iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
In 7.3 the person who logs on from the console owns the cdrom device.
So the restrictive permissions are not a problem. It is not owned by
root normally unless root is logged on at the time first.
