Well I will stick my neck out again. You can't do that with a live
file system. The number of inodes is set in the partition formatting
process. So you would need to back up the /dev/hda1 partition and
rerun mkfs.ext2 or mkfs.ext3 and use the -i option. You might also
want to change the block-size which might help under some
circumstances.
