Re: I want to increase the Swap Space on a already installed linux box.

    Example, where 2^10 = two to the 10'th power = 1024 and 2^19 =524288:
To add a swap file named, say, /drive2/extraswap of length 2^19 * 2^10
bytes (about 512MB) do

dd if=/dev/zero of=/drive2/extraswap bs=1024 count=524288
mkswap /drive2/extraswap
sync
swapon /drive2/extraswap

The swapon statement can be put in /etc/rc.d/rc.local to make it take
effect whenever the computer is booted, though there may be better ways to
turn on the swap file at boot.
