This does not answer two questions.
1. It does not explain how the user decides to use KDE or GNOME.
Presumably he uses switchdesk when the X is up and that will stick.

2. The bigger question is why you want to do this? If each user is
going to use Gnome of KDE why not have them come up when the user
logs in?
