RE: Digital video

I've used a program called keno, to do the video capture from my Canon
MV550i. And it works great.. IEEE-1394 (I-Link) is the way to go... All
Video & sound captured at the same time..

A DV or Digital8 digital camcorder typically comes with a Firewire port,
also called i.LINK by Sony or IEEE 1394 by others. This is what you would
use to transfer digital video. Some motherboards have Firewire ports, or
you could buy a supported PCI card with Firewire (I got one with cable for
about $40). See http://www.linux1394.org for more info.

USB is not usually used for digital video (too slow). If you have USB, it
is probably used for photo transfers, not video. You could also do the
analog video with a video capture card and v4l, but quality is best with
Firewire.

Sample Linux software:

Software to grab DV from Firewire: dvgrab
Software to convert DV to mpeg or Divx: transcode or mjpegtools
Software to build VCD/SVCD images: vcdimager
Software to burn VCD images: cdrdao
