mysql versions

Greetings!

I have 2 servers running mysql and they are both registered to RHN.

Both were installed using RedHat 7.3 cdroms

Both have been fully updated using up2date.

I see 2 different versions of mysql running on them:

Server 1:

[root kcapp root]# rpm -qa | grep -i mysql

MySQL-shared-3.23.51-1

MySQL-3.23.51-1

MySQL-devel-3.23.51-1

MySQL-client-3.23.51-1

[root kcapp root]# mysql -V

mysql  Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.51, for pc-linux-gnu (i686)

[root kcapp root]#

Server 2:

[root kcapp-devel RPMS]# rpm -qa | grep -i mysql

mysql-devel-3.23.56-1.73

mysql-server-3.23.56-1.73

mysql-3.23.56-1.73

[root kcapp-devel RPMS]# mysql -V

mysql  Ver 11.18 Distrib 3.23.56, for pc-linux (i686)

[root kcapp-devel RPMS]#

does anyone have any ideas why this happens?

Also, what is the difference between pc-linux and pc-linux-gnu ?

Thanks!

David Maayani
