There are a couple of ways:  You can ssh to the ESX server.  The
storage is under /vmfs in the relevant storage pool.  Look for the
'*-flat.vmdk' file.  Use 'scp' command to copy the file off once
you've worked out the path.

Another way is to access the ESX server over https://server/
