It's not a "fundamental issue". It's a choice we leave to the user to be
able to set up a connection with expiration and doing some cleaning for him.
If it's stay on the filesystem, it would be practicaly unusable anyway.

Using an applet or a file to setup a connection has pros and cons. This is
not the place or the time to discuss it. At the moment, those are complementary
solutions.
