In my case, the problem is not just with netscape. Indeed, I
basically never use it. I started it up just to see how it behaves.
But even without netscape running, I see the thrashing of
harddisk---say when I load emacs or xterm or gnome-terminal.

Top's header (I think) shows nothing interesting:

 12:10pm up 19:45, 6 users, load average: 0.08, 0.03, 0.01
79 processes: 78 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.0% user, 0.3% system, 0.0% nice, 99.6% idle
Mem: 126696K av, 111560K used, 15136K free, 0K shrd, 540K buff
Swap: 243068K av, 29012K used, 214056K free 15508K cached

On the other hand, even I do not do anything at all, the following
line jumps into top periodically (like every 30 seconds or so)

 1405 root 17 0 42904 36M 3376 S 0.5 29.7 0:15 X

and this high mem percentage usage stays in top for about 5-10 seconds.
Is this SIZE entry normal?

So I should just try to upgrade to the X server in rawhide?
