I hope not! I have now deinstalled the XFree86-ISO8859-2*,
XFree86-ISO8859-7*, XFree86-ISO8859-9*, XFree86-KOI8-R*,
XFree86-cyrillic* packages and disabled multibyte support. I will
reinstall them later step by step ...

So far everything works fine, e.g.

[root localhost test]# cat > test <<EOF
> gögügäGÖGÜGÄ
[root localhost test]# more test

[root localhost test]# touch gögügäGÖGÜGÄ
[root localhost test]# ls
[root localhost test]# rm *
rm: remove `g\366g\374g\344G\326G\334G\304'? y

Not that I REALLY need this 'äöü'-stuff ... but my
"bootloader" does ... so I'm not sure, if I could safely
do a

cd /mnt/win
tar cvfj windows.tar.bz2 /mnt/win
rm -rf /mnt/win
tar xvfj windows.tar.bz2
