 You could very likely redirect the output of X (including stderr)
and run it on VT1 with no m(in)?getty processes running for other
VTs, that should prevent the Ctrl+Alt+Fn away from X.

 And putting the kiosk app. in inittab with "respawn" should be
enough in most cases to make it robust.  The "DontZap" option is
AFAIK still accepted in XF86Config-4.
