I want to learn Linux but I am struggeling to get the resolution right. I have installed 9.0, X is giving me a major headache. Whenever i configure the resolution to be anything above 600x480, the monitor goes black after initial booting. The installation recognises the Monitor and the graphics card correctly. I have tried different monitors, but the results were the same. The biggest problem with it is now, that each time I try to change settings and the screen goes "black", I have to reinstall it all over again. Can someone help me to tweak the settings so that I can see a 1024x768 resolution. Thank you very much Dom __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I think this list is the right one to use, if its Fedora/RHEL related otherwise, xorg at freedesktop.org might be a better bet if its an "upstream" issue -- Colin Charles, byte at aeon.com.my http://www.bytebot.net/ "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mohandas Gandhi From dyno_dom at yahoo.com Sun Jan 9 09:40:54 2005 From: dyno_dom at yahoo.com (Dominic Opferkuch) Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2005 01:40:54 -0800 (PST) Subject: xorg-x11 In-Reply-To: <1105259187.2024.37.camel@localhost.localdomain> Message-ID: <20050109094054.53038.qmail@web50006.mail.yahoo.com> thanks for your mail Dom --- Colin Charles wrote: > On Fri, 2004-12-24 at 16:07 -0500, Gene C. wrote: > > Is there a mailing list for xorg-x11 which is > comperable to this list > > for > > xfree86? > > I think this list is the right one to use, if its > Fedora/RHEL related > > otherwise, xorg at freedesktop.org might be a better > bet if its an > "upstream" issue > -- > Colin Charles, byte at aeon.com.my > http://www.bytebot.net/ > "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then > they fight you, > then you win." -- Mohandas Gandhi > > _______________________________________________ > xfree86-list mailing list > xfree86-list at redhat.com > https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/xfree86-list > IRC: #xfree86 on irc.redhat.com > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Unfortunately, I can't get XFree86 to work. No matter what SiS driver I choose in the Xconfigurator, I always get a message saying that there was a problem with my X configuration. I tried downloading one of the precompiled drivers from Thomas Winischhover's site, but I'm not having any luck with that either. Is there a way to get AS 2.1 to work with this video chipset? I am newcomer in this list, I am here because i have a problem with xfree86 obviously!! I have a problem with XFree and Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 in a server. I had to compile a kernel 2.4.26 in order to achieve shutdown the server, because the original kernel does not support ACPI (the bios neither support apm). I achieved shutdown the system with acpi in this kernel, but now xfree86 does not work. Nothing more looks fail. We had the same problem when we compiled other kernels, I think is a problem of red hat enterprise, I consider is a system very fanciful and delicate, but I do not know how to repair it. Has someone any idea?? Can someone help me?? Had someone a similar problem?? Thanks for your attention. And excuse me for my poor english. The best place for discussing Xorg problems is on the xorg at lists.freedesktop.org mailing list Colin has refered to above. Doing so will reach the largest number of X.Org users and developers, and thus maximize the chance of getting useful answers for problems. Also, if you discover bugs in Xorg, the best place to report them to maximize the number of developers seeing the issue and potentially fixing it, is to report the bug into X.Org bugzilla (rather than Red Hat bugzilla), by filing a bug at: http://bugs.freedesktop.org in the "xorg" component. People are of course free to discuss Xorg related problems, etc. on this mailing list too, but you'll probably have better results using the general xorg at lists.freedesktop.org mailing list (or xorg at lists.x.org if the list moves soon), where you'll reach 10 to 100 times the number of people. Hope this helps.
