Update:

Today I had some more time to play with my new Dual Opteron Box. While
running a small test program that shuffles around 16 GB data no problem
occured for hours (besides heavy swapping), using a single swap partition
large enough for this task and having only 4 GB physical RAM installed.
That is: Using the SMP/NPTL kernel shipped with Fedora FC1.

So the questions that arise for me are the following:

Is there any reason that the kernel that is used during the installation
of Fedora for x86_64 can't handle swap partitions larger than 2 GB?

What is the maximum size for swap partitions on x86_64? Using a 2.4
kernel or using a 2.6 kernel (if there is a difference)?
