Trouble with Asus SK8V MB with more than 2048M memory

You tried the 'mem=4096M' on the installed system as well, I assume. I 
am on the SuSE AMD64 list & that seems to be necessary for anything 
above 2 GB of physical RAM .... $0.02, no more, no less :-).
