Yes, I've seen the PCI 9200's on various store shelves, too, and the
PCI 9100's like the one I picked up have disappeared...

However, almost all the PCI 9200's (IIRC) were the 9200 SE flavor,
which is NOT the same performance level as the 9100. The former has
128-bit memory bus, the latter only 64-bit, in addition to slower
clocking and half as many texture units per pipeline.

Here's a pointer to a graphics chipset comparo where this (and more)
is spelled out:

As to whether a PCI 9200 SE would work with the RH 7.2 drivers - NOT.

The original XFree86 with RH 7.2 for Alpha is 4.1.0, which does not
have the appropriate support for anything much beyond 7500, IIRC.

I think that 4.3.0 MAY have the necessary bits for 9200, as that's
what I've been using with the 9100 card. I built the 4.3.0 with a
(very old now) snapshot downloaded from Mike Harris' webpages.

Oh, yes, the 9100 DOES work with the Xserver in AC-0.9... :-) :-)

The PCI 7500 works VERY well in 2D and 3D with the 4.1.0 in RH 7.2 for
Alpha as well as with 4.3.0 and AC-0.9.

The PCI 9100 did NOT work with 4.1.0, but DOES in 2D and 3D with 4.3.0
and AC-0.9.

I'd be fairly sure that AC-0.9 would also support the 9200, but
remember that we've seen reports (on this list I believe) of varying
success with different flavors of PCI 7500 cards with the older
(4.1.0/4.3.0) servers; I'm not sure I'd bet on that not occuring
with later servers as well... :-\

Sigh, always the hard way first... ;-}

Simply do "man radeon" under AC-0.9 and you'll see what is supported.

Good luck, Tony; keep us posted...
