replying to myself,
have the vmlinuz-2.6.25-14.1axp.fc8.alpha kernel and this image, seems a
little small:
-rw------- 1 root root   32768 2008-07-25 18:54
initrd-2.6.25-14.1axp.fc8.alpha.img

 but booting it with this setup:
1:1/vmlinuz-2.6.25-14.1axp.fc8.alpha
initrd=/initrd-2.6.25-14.1axp.fc8.alpha.img
root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 selinux=off
0:1/vmlinuz-2.6.23.10-97.fc8.1axp
initrd=/initrd-2.6.23.10-97.fc8.1axp.img root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
selinux=off

results in a kerenl panic.
any hints?
thanks
bob
