Thanks Ian
I managed to find a working fan.
Nidec Beta SL
12V
0.09A
D08R-12TS1 03B

Just had to swap out the 3 pin male connector for a 3 pin female connect and
that was it. Purchased 2 of them on eBay for about $10 with shipping. I
spoke with Tero the very next day after I won the auction. Tero stated he
had the same issue a couple of years ago and had some information from the
company that stated it was a Nidec Beta SL as well, almost identical to the
one that I purchased.

We discussed it for a bit and I told him about some information that I
stumbled across concerning the tach/lock rotor wire
he, the guy on the msg
board, mentioned it as well in some instructions he was providing to another
alpha user some time ago.

Solution #9
In short...
o No
o The signal on that pin is Locked-Rotor (1A) and not Tacho signal (1BX)
Not commonly readable on PCs
Commonly readable/used/required on Apple/SUN/SGI/DEC-Alpha
o Only a few Panaflo are available with 1BX option code
60mm in H noise-spec, 80mm in M noise-spec, 120mm in H noise-spec
92mm in L noise-spec
o The 1BX option code uses a different PCB & motor-ic
the 1A motor-ic is generally slightly quieter for silence-addicts
it uses soft-edged microprocessor switching for low-noise
the 1BX motor-ic has the caveat of higher switching noise evident
however some applications will not run without a tacho signal

Tacho signal on tier-1 fans is somewhat moot - the fan has an L10 figure,
field-data confirmed, that exceeds the typical life of the equipment it goes
in.

In full...
o Panasonic Panaflo part numbers describe the actual specs of the fan
same for all fan makers, just a matter of knowing how they work
o Note that OEM (integrated into product) codes may differ
codes may be the OEM codes, or equivalent field-replaceable units
odd sizes are possible, eg, 70mm, 100mm, 110mm but very rare

He explained it in GREAT detail! Thanks for getting back with me, much
appreciated! Sincerely, Will L G

A month or so ago my cpu fan started making a grinding noise and I decided
to go ahead and lubricate the cpu fan in order to get some more additional
life out of it before having to replace it. Well the time has come,
unfortunately I lost the little sticker on the fan with the model and specs.
Does anyone happen to know the fan specs or where I can find a replacement
80mmx15mm fan?

>From what I was reading, it will require a little require a little rewiring
of the pins on the fan. I appears that instead of using the 3 pin for
pfan_sense, it uses the 2 pin. I've tried several 80mmx25mm fans but it
seems the "System Fan Controller" is a bit sensitive to voltage/resistance.
Sincerely, Will L G
