vlc playing dvd's

I got some help from the vlc list on this problem and it works too:
rvlc --quiet --novideo --volume 300 dvdsimple:///dev/dvd1
on debian systems gets the job done.  The vlc documentation makes it sound 
as if a dvd has a menu one has to use dvd:// but that's not the case.  
Even if a dvd does have a menu and you can't interact with that menu and 
just want to listen to the contents of the dvd starting out at the 
beginning dvdsimple:// is the best way to go.
