What distribution will work with the virtual machine on a Mac?

I can't speak to a Mac, but you can definitely use Linux in a virtual 
machine with speech. I've used it with VMware, which has a product for 
the Mac, and with QEMU/KVM. Others have used it with Virtual Box as well.
