what is needed for plymouth to boot with gfx?

Christoph,

The latest plymouths have been a bit of a regression for me. I see some
plymouth related locking errors at boot.

I've had success with adding 'nomodeset vga=794' on my boot line, which gets
the spin version back again. You might not need nomodeset, and vga=794 seems
counter-intuitive but works for me.
