yum and rpm updates for 8.0

Or alternatively, I do assume yum 1.x will run on the upgraded rpm too,
right?

So if you're looking to cut down on maintanence of packages and make the
life of the maintainers a bit easier, then it would make sense to just
have the 1 yum... yum 1.x... which runs on the original rpm and the
upgrade rpm regardless, and which runs on 7.x too?
