I use the latest from ATrpms: yum-2.4.1-64.rhfc1.at
I've been using yum from ATrpms for ages, and on multiple servers (FC1 - 3,
RHEL3 - 4) so they are a uniform yum version (with the same features) through
my environment and never a problem. Just today this has shown up.

Checking my one:
# sha1sum primary.xml.gz
ac9fbb74145e3e77e1c2354c1ee0e9de25385a48 primary.xml.gz
The same as that too.

Hmmm.. I've run both these and it seems to have fixed the problem:
# yum check-update
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
primary.xml.gz 100% |=========================| 254 kB 00:05
