I did an install of everything, and there are a lot of processes running by
default that I do not need, and it takes time for each of these to start. The
linux security benchmark product at the center for internet security
(www.cisecurity.com) has a lot of good ideas about what services to cut
(although i am told the rpm -F method of updating suggested there is not good --
use yum instead). By using chkconfig to disable unnecessary stuff, I cut my
boot time by perhaps 70%.
