For me :
 cdrecord -v dev=ATAPI:0,1,0 blank=fast
works.
recording:
cdrecord -v dev=ATAPI:0,1,0 -eject -dao /path/to/some.iso
as well.
My cdwriter is /hdd
 success, but YMMV
