This sounds like a problem that might be a good candidate for bugzilla.
Are you booting into graphics mode? (With the flash screen and the blue
login prompt.) Or are you booting into runlevel 3 (terminal prompt for
login) and having to launch X using startx.
There might be bugs related to your problem in freedesk.org (xorg-x11).
Below is a bug for problems with the 815 card. You might find a similar
bug that is related to the 845 video card there.

should get you there with this blank screen when system is cold-booted.
I did have a problem with a black screen that seemed like the computer
was locked up. The computer finally brought up the X screen after a long
wait. Have you let the screen remain black, then check back a few
minutes later?
